The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS102

WS102 fills the open Kübelwagen with people at different heights. The driver stays low, a black-uniformed tanker rises above the windscreen and a standing infantryman brings the scene down to the ground beside the car.

A return to an earlier vehicle idea

The archived announcement describes this as a late-war camouflage version of the Fields of Battle Kübelwagen issued in 2006. For the WS release, King & Country supplied three new figures and set the subject in Normandy after the invasion.

That makes the release more than a change of paint. The people and their arrangement are part of the model’s particular identity.

The divisional attribution belongs with its history

The manufacturer identifies the figures with the 1st SS Panzer Division, Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. The WS historical overview addresses the Waffen-SS and the wider context of its campaigns and crimes.

The announcement gives a Normandy setting but does not identify a particular road, vehicle registration photograph or documented meeting. The little group is a composed representation of that setting.

Three heights keep the car open

The standing tanker is visible above the vehicle, while the separate infantryman stands beside the front quarter. Their heads do not form a flat line, which helps the open car feel occupied rather than crowded with identical passengers.

The spare wheel on the bonnet and the low folded-looking windscreen area provide additional shapes at the front. The camouflage is visible across these surfaces even when the figures draw most of the attention.

A bend in the lane

A hedge corner can frame the group, but leave the standing infantryman and the car’s open interior visible. A high wall pressed against the vehicle would hide much of what distinguishes this version.

WS102 belongs in a retrospective as a compact vehicle-and-figure scene. It offers a useful comparison with earlier Kübelwagens: the same broad vehicle type can tell a different story when the finish, crew and campaign setting change together.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS102 product record lists a release date of May 2007 and a retirement date of March 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
