The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS104(SL)

The damaged staff car anchors WS104(SL), but the four figures carry the event. King & Country depicts Reinhard Heydrich, his driver and the two Czechoslovak resistance operatives, Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík.

Prague, 27 May 1942

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s timeline records the attack on Heydrich’s car in Prague. Gabčík’s weapon jammed; Kubiš then threw the bomb that injured Heydrich. Heydrich died on 4 June, rather than at the roadside.

The model compresses the dramatic encounter into a displayable arrangement. Its figure positions and damaged car should be read as an artistic reconstruction, not a frame-by-frame forensic record.

Remember both men accurately

The old sales description calls both men Czech and spells Gabčík’s first name Josef. This catalog uses Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík: a Czech and a Slovak serving the Czechoslovak resistance effort.

A Czech Embassy account of their memorial in Shropshire also recalls their time in Britain and friendship with the Ellison family. That human connection broadens the story beyond the few seconds depicted by the set.

The aftermath belongs in the account

Nazi authorities responded with mass repression, including the destruction of Lidice. Responsibility for those reprisals rests with the perpetrators who ordered and carried them out.

The assassination cannot be separated from Heydrich’s role in the Nazi system of persecution, but neither should the civilians murdered afterward disappear behind a dramatic model title.

The limited-edition release

The archived announcement specifies 999 sets and a four-page background booklet. That is an original production statement, not a measure of how many complete examples survive or what one should cost today.

For a boxed example, the car, all four figures and the accompanying printed material are useful things to document individually. The SL suffix is part of the release’s identity.

A display that leaves room for explanation

Keep the two resistance figures visible around the car rather than hiding them behind its long body. A short caption with the operation’s name and the May and June dates helps the viewer understand what the miniature compresses into one scene.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS104(SL) product record lists a release date of August 2007. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
