The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD149

DD149 stretches a machine gun and its prone American gunner across a long, shallow base. The perforated barrel jacket extends ahead of the figure, making the weapon’s outline as important as the man behind it.

A different infantry subject from the riflemen

The archived release identifies a GI with a .30-calibre machine gun. It sits among the prone officer, rifle pair and BAR gunner in the 2011 group of D-Day infantry offerings.

That variety is useful in a historical collection. The men do not all carry the same equipment or occupy the same visual role, even when their uniforms and bases connect them.

The gun and figure share the ground

The saved photograph shows the gunner’s head raised just enough to remain visible behind the weapon. His legs extend backward, while the gun creates the forward projection.

A side-quarter view makes that full relationship clear. Seen only from the front, much of the figure disappears behind the gun; seen directly from above, the face becomes harder to appreciate.

Give the base a clear foreground

This is a low subject. A tall hedge or pile of rubble placed directly in front can conceal the barrel and leave little more than a helmet visible.

A shallow ground treatment preserves the original shape. The figure can then work alongside DD148’s riflemen without every base needing to sit at exactly the same angle.

Why the support gunner belongs separately

The D-Day historical catalog follows the campaign beyond the landing itself. DD149 contributes an American infantry support-weapon subject to that broader story.

The release records one gunner and his weapon arrangement, rather than a complete multi-man crew. Its long silhouette and distinctive barrel jacket are the details to preserve when identifying an unboxed example among other prone figures.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD149 product record lists a release date of June 2011 and a retirement date of January 2014. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
