The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD135

DD135 gives the Sherman the unmistakably long gun of the Firefly, with Irish Guards markings and two crew figures. It is a British-operated conversion whose American origins remain visible in the hull.

The conversion changed more than the barrel

The Tank Museum explains the work required to fit the 17-pounder, including changes to the turret, radio accommodation and ammunition space.

The more powerful gun did not bring a matching increase in armour protection. That is a useful correction to the idea that the Firefly simply made the Sherman immune to the heavier German tanks.

The Irish Guards release

The archived description identifies B Squadron of the 2nd Armoured Battalion, Irish Guards, within the Guards Armoured Division. Those markings give this particular model a more precise identity than the general Firefly type.

The source does not establish a named individual tank or a specific battle photograph for this entry.

The separate components matter

The release specifies two crew figures, a detachable radio antenna and a separate load of extra supplies. The saved photograph shows the long gun and rear stowage together.

When checking an example, distinguish removable items stored separately from parts genuinely absent from the offered set.

Why this tank belongs in the collection

DD135 connects British equipment adaptation with an American tank design. Beside the Cromwell in DD116, it also gives a Guards Armoured display two different vehicle forms.

Keep the regimental markings and original two-figure allocation with the code so that this release remains distinguishable from other Firefly models.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD135 product record lists a release date of May 2010 and a retirement date of March 2012. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
