King & Country DD117 Piper in Action: A Canadian Scottish Connection

The Canadian identity matters

The archived description connects the piper with the Scottish traditions of Canadian regiments. The release sequence identifies its Canadian infantry with the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

That makes DD117 a Canadian subject. It should not be relabelled as Bill Millin simply because a piper immediately brings that better-known Sword Beach story to mind.

The instrument changes the composition

The bag, pipes and raised drones take the place of the long rifle line seen in the neighbouring figures. The painted details add colour within the otherwise practical clothing.

A little clear background above the head keeps the full instrument readable. Crowding it against a vehicle antenna or tree can hide its outline.

Why the piper belongs in the catalog

DD117 introduces regimental culture and sound as an implied part of the collection. It gives the Canadian group a subject beyond another weapon pose.

Preserving the correct nationality and anonymous identity keeps the set’s own story intact rather than borrowing the biography of a different wartime piper.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD117 product record lists a release date of June 2009 and a retirement date of November 2012. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
