The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS043

WS043 depicts the Tiger associated with Michael Wittmann’s final battle, with three crew figures and a long 88mm gun dominating the profile. The name makes it one of the range’s more historically specific tank releases.

The last battle and the limits of certainty

Wittmann was killed in Normandy on 8 August 1944. A US Army Armor journal discussion examines the evidence and competing accounts surrounding the loss of his Tiger.

The catalog does not assign the fatal shot to a particular gunner as though that question were settled by the model’s title.

Keep the SS context attached

Wittmann served in the Waffen-SS. The organization’s participation in the Holocaust and other war crimes is documented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

A named tank can be studied as equipment and a historical representation without turning its commander’s combat reputation into a heroic legend.

The early King & Country interpretation

The archived release describes an elevating main gun and three new crew figures. The saved photo shows the camouflage, turret markings and figures arranged on the vehicle.

Those details distinguish WS043 from later Wittmann-related Tigers and special sets.

Why compare versions?

Named vehicles often receive more than one miniature interpretation. Keeping the exact code with the reference image allows a collector to examine the differences in paint, crew and detailing instead of assuming the shared historical name means the same release.

WS043 belongs as one documented stage in that collecting history.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS043 product record lists a release date of December 2002 and a retirement date of November 2005. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
