The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS041

WS041 combines a small grey Panzer II with a commander at the hatch and two infantry figures alongside. The men make the tank’s compact size immediately apparent.

A stopgap that went to war

The Tank Museum describes the Panzer II as a stopgap design that nevertheless played an important part in Germany’s early campaigns.

That background helps explain its place beside the larger armoured vehicles in the collection. Early-war German tank forces were not made up solely of the heavy machines that dominate later popular images.

The release’s particular combination

The archived description specifies a 2cm turret gun, a machine gun, a commander figure and two attacking Grossdeutschland infantrymen. The saved image shows the grey finish and the vehicle’s 131 turret marking.

The soldiers are part of this offering, rather than unrelated extras added only for the photograph.

The infantry sets the scale

The two men lean forward close to the hull. Their height relative to the turret gives the miniature a very different presence from a Tiger with figures around it.

A clear front-quarter view lets the commander, main gun and two ground figures remain visible together.

Why the small tank matters

WS041 broadens the range’s armoured history beyond the later heavy tanks. It also illustrates why an infantry-and-vehicle set needs both categories in the catalog.

Keep the original three-figure allocation with the code: one commander at the tank and two separate infantrymen. That makes completeness easier to judge when a vehicle has spent years in a larger display.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS041 product record lists a release date of January 2003 and a retirement date of November 2003. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
