The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD101
DD101 carries the name Richelieu on the side of an M10 tank destroyer, with three French crew figures bringing the open-topped vehicle to life. It is a striking change of national identity on a familiar American-built machine.
Why naval troops were in armour
The French navy’s history of its fusiliers marins records the Régiment blindé de fusiliers-marins receiving American M10s and joining Leclerc’s 2nd Armoured Division in 1943.
That is the historical connection behind the apparently unexpected combination of sailors and tank destroyers. It should not be confused with the separate 1st Régiment de fusiliers marins serving with the 1st Free French Division.
The named vehicle in the release
The archived product record identifies Richelieu and specifies three French Marines. The photograph shows the name, French markings, carried supplies and crew positions.
Those details distinguish this set from the earlier American M10 interpretation mentioned in the release description.
An open turret invites a closer look
The crew and stowage are particularly visible around the turret opening. From the front quarter, the main gun, hull markings and figures can be read together.
A high wall immediately alongside would hide much of the national identity carried on the side of the vehicle.
Why this M10 belongs separately
DD101 tells a story about equipment crossing national boundaries while its users retained a distinct identity. Beside Leclerc in DD100 or the officer in DD102, it creates a focused French chapter within the broader Allied catalog.
Those companion figures are separate releases and should remain separate in a contents record.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD101 product record lists a release date of December 2008. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
