The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD087
DD087 raises an open hand while holding his rifle across the body. The gesture is easy to read, but the figure’s identity is the more unusual detail: the release describes a glider pilot on the ground.
The flight did not provide a return journey
A glider delivered men or cargo and then remained at the landing site. Its pilot’s story therefore continued on the ground in a way quite different from that of a transport aircraft crew flying home.
The National Museum of the US Air Force records glider pilots fighting in ground combat, including an action during the Rhine crossing in March 1945. That later example provides context for the role; it is not the named setting of DD087.
A hand signal gives the figure its character
The saved photograph shows the raised palm and the head turned toward the same side. The rifle stays low enough for the open hand to dominate the composition.
He can interact with another figure without needing a dramatic pointing arm or a sculpted opponent.
Keep pilot and passenger distinct
The release identifies a pilot, rather than simply another glider infantry soldier. That distinction widens the range’s airborne subjects and deserves to remain in the collection record.
No named pilot or particular landing is established in the product description.
Why this is an interesting small release
DD087 brings an often overlooked participant into the DD catalog. The warning gesture supplies an immediate visual story, while the pilot identity connects the figure to the aircraft and crews that made airborne operations possible.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD087 product record lists a release date of June 2007 and a retirement date of June 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
