King & Country DD081 At Attention: The Airborne Soldier Away from the Firefight

The 82nd behind the image

The division’s Normandy role included securing important ground inland from Utah Beach. The National WWII Museum’s airborne account places Sainte-Mère-Église and the Merderet crossings within that larger mission.

DD081 does not reproduce a named participant in those actions. Its subject is the representative trooper, presented in a pose that shifts the focus from the battle to the soldier.

What to compare in the photograph

The rifle follows the body’s vertical line, while the equipment breaks up the front of the jacket. The narrow stance gives the figure a smaller footprint than a lunging rifleman.

It also makes a useful visual comparison with DD082, where the officer bends low over binoculars and carries his weapon in a different relationship to the body.

Why it belongs in the collection

A series retrospective should retain these less theatrical releases. DD081 records a formal posture within King & Country’s 2007 airborne group and gives collectors a clearly identified alternative to another action figure.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD081 product record lists a release date of June 2007 and a retirement date of June 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability.
