The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL063
AL063 changes the pace of the mounted collection. The product describes a walking horse and a trooper with his rifle carried across his shoulders, pointing to the right. It is a useful contrast to figures whose weapons and bodies all press directly forward.
The title is a placement clue
The direction of the rifle is part of the release’s identity. In a collection photograph, it can either create an interesting cross-line or disappear behind the next figure. I would try the rider at the side of a group, where the weapon has a clear outline and does not visually cut through another man’s face.
That same distinction helps when comparing AL063 with AL064. The two names are similar, but the direction of the carried rifle is precisely what the catalog is asking the collector to notice.
Movement between the dramatic moments
Mounted troops spent time moving to places where they would work or fight, rather than remaining permanently in a charge. The NZ History account of horses in the Sinai and Palestine campaign follows the importance of those mounts across the wider service of the allied force.
For an AL display, that broader perspective makes a walking subject valuable. A small group can suggest a patrol or a column in transit without requiring a dramatic encounter at its front.
Collecting a pair with a purpose
AL063 and AL064 can provide complementary shapes, but I would avoid arranging them as a perfectly mirrored ornament. A slight difference in spacing and angle keeps the group from looking too symmetrical.
The release earns its place by changing both gait and equipment position. Those are modest differences individually, yet together they give a mounted shelf more variety and make each rider easier to recognize.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL063 product record lists July 2014 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
