King & Country AL096 Australian Light Horse Trooper with Rifle: An Early Pose in a Later Edition

Look beyond the weapon

The hand carrying the rifle changes the rider’s balance and the open spaces around his body. When arranging him with bayonet-forward figures, I would use that difference to avoid a row in which every weapon projects along the same line.

A staggered group often photographs more clearly than a tightly aligned one. The horse’s head, the rider’s torso and the rifle can remain distinct, making the variation between releases visible.

The centenary as a collecting moment

The hundredth anniversary of Beersheba prompted renewed attention to the campaign in 2017, including the Australian War Memorial’s commemorative display. King & Country’s later editions belong to that modern history of remembrance and collecting.

AL096 is therefore interesting on two levels. It represents a mounted soldier from the First World War, and it records a moment when an established miniature range returned to its earlier subjects for a new audience. Keeping both dates in mind makes the release more informative than a generic “charging trooper” label.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL096 product record lists October 2017 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
