The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL095
AL095 combines two of the AL range’s most recognizable ideas: mounted movement and a bugler at work. Released in the 2017 centenary group, it revisits an early subject while giving collectors a distinct later edition to identify.
A later edition of the mounted theme
The product record describes a bugler with a Lee-Enfield carried across his back. It also explains the altered horse colours used to distinguish the 2017 mounted editions from the originals. Those details make the reference photograph especially important when looking at an unboxed example.
A title that says only “Light Horse bugler” can cover more than one release. AL002, AL093 and AL095 do not all serve the same catalog role: the series includes both earlier mounted subjects and a standing bugler on foot.
Collecting the story of the signal
The Australian War Memorial’s guide to commemorative bugles explains how later souvenir instruments can be mistaken for wartime objects. It is an interesting parallel for miniature collectors: the subject represented and the date an object was made are separate pieces of information.
AL095 is openly a modern commemorative miniature. Its appeal does not depend on confusing its 2017 release with an original wartime artifact.
Let the instrument lead the eye
The raised bugle creates a small, concentrated point of activity above the horse. I would keep adjacent flags and rifle barrels from overlapping it, especially from the main viewing angle. Otherwise the musical role becomes hard to distinguish within the mounted group.
The release is useful as a focal figure and as an edition comparison. It lets a collector enjoy the dramatic mounted subject while recording the details that distinguish the later version, keeping the catalog helpful for both display planning and a careful search through secondhand listings.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL095 product record lists October 2017 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
