The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS223-1
The two commanders in WS223-1 wear very different clothing: one has a black wraparound jacket and peaked cap, while the other wears a pale winter smock and side cap. The reference photograph shows them installed in tank hatches, but the tanks are separate models.

The figures are the release
King & Country introduced the pair in response to requests for alternative vehicle commanders. Their purpose is to change the occupied appearance of an armored model without replacing the whole vehicle.
The first figure is identified with Waffen-SS clothing; the second combines the winter smock with a Wehrmacht Panzer side cap. The WS prefix should not erase that difference between the two subjects.
The clothing changes the hatch’s focal point
The black jacket creates a dark shape above the turret, with the cap adding a more formal outline. The pale smock produces a much brighter area around the second figure’s arms and face.
Both rest naturally within the circular hatch openings shown in the reference. Those surrounding turrets demonstrate possible use rather than additional contents of the set.
A practical variation for a vehicle collection
Swapping a commander changes where the viewer looks and which clothing details are visible. It can also create a different seasonal impression, though the tank’s own finish and markings still need to suit the intended display.
The release does not promise a universal fit in every vehicle. Compare the intended opening and the figure’s base arrangement before assuming interchangeability across unrelated models.
For collecting purposes, identify both commander figures separately. A listing with one man in a tank hatch is not evidence that the complete two-figure WS223-1 set is present.
The pair earns its catalog entry as an accessory release with two distinct uniform treatments. The contrast between black jacket and winter smock is the visual interest, while the separate service identifications make the description more precise.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS223-1 product record lists a release date of April 2013 and a retirement date of August 2017. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
