The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS198

A long lead stretches between the military policeman and his dog in WS198. The handler’s greatcoat creates a tall, solid shape, while the animal stands lower and farther forward, giving the pair an unusually open composition.

The police role belongs in the identification

King & Country calls the figure a Feldgendarmerie dog handler. The subject is military policing and guard duty, rather than an infantryman accompanied by a pet.

The short release description gives no named unit, camp or individual incident. The catalog should not attach an unsupported location to the dog simply because similar animals appear in many wartime photographs.

The space between the figures matters

The lead is not just a small accessory. It explains the relationship between the man and the animal while allowing their bodies to remain separated.

The dog’s dark back, lighter legs and alert head contrast with the handler’s green coat and helmet. The different heights give the eye a clear route from the man’s hand down to the animal.

A support subject with a watchful mood

The pair can suggest a guarded entrance or the edge of a vehicle area. A simple setting is enough, because the lead and outward attention already establish the working relationship.

Keep the dog visible from the chosen viewing angle. If the animal disappears behind a wall or vehicle wheel, the handler can look like an isolated figure holding an unexplained line.

Completeness includes the connection

Photographs should show the handler, dog and the full lead arrangement. The thin line is particularly important to the original composition and can be difficult to assess in a small sales thumbnail.

WS198 adds an animal and a policing role to the WS retrospective. Its appeal as a miniature comes from the relationship between two distinct silhouettes, with the manufacturer’s guard-duty identification keeping the scene specific.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS198 product record lists a release date of January 2015 and a retirement date of September 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
