The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS179
WS179 takes two Panzer figures out of their vehicle and puts MP40s in their hands. One wears darker trousers with a camouflaged upper garment; the other has pale winter clothing beneath a dark jacket. The mixed layers give the pair a less uniform appearance than their shared role might suggest.

The tank is outside the set
The catalog calls them “Tiger Tank Guards,” but the release shown here contains the two dismounted figures. A Tiger or any other vehicle in a collector’s scene is a separate addition.
The white helmet and pale trousers on one man provide a strong winter cue. The other figure’s hooded or wrapped head and bulkier clothing create a different shape. Both remain occupied with guarding rather than with the controls of a vehicle.
Crewmen had work beyond the hatches
A tank display can easily reduce its crew to faces visible above the turret. Dismounted figures expand that picture, suggesting the periods when men were beside the vehicle rather than inside it.
The compact MP40s also distinguish these men from infantry armed with long rifles. The National Army Museum’s weapon record provides a useful historical reference for the designation, which is preferable to the familiar but misleading “Schmeisser” nickname.
Use the clothing differences
I would avoid placing the figures in a perfectly symmetrical arrangement on either side of a tank. Their different layers and headgear look more convincing when each occupies a slightly different position, with clear space around the weapons.
A little winter ground can connect their bases with a vehicle scene, but it need not cover the clothing details. Check both figures and their carried equipment when examining a secondhand pair. WS179 is useful because it gives a winter armored collection a human presence at ground level, with two distinct silhouettes and an activity beyond driving or fighting from a hatch.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived WS179 product record lists a release date of December 2010 and a retirement date of September 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
