King & Country WH058 Fresh Milk Today: A Cow Interrupts the Infantry Catalog

The Operation ToyBox catalog · WH058

A cow is the centre of WH058. One German soldier sits low beside it with a bucket, while another stands drinking. It is one of the WH range’s clearest departures from conventional combat poses.

The reference image tells the small story

The surviving product text supplies the title but little description. The saved photograph shows the two soldiers, the brown-and-white cow and the milking arrangement.

Those visible elements are enough to identify the composition. They do not establish a named farm, a country or whether an encounter of this kind involved payment, permission or coercion.

A rural scene carries more than one reading

At first glance, the release has an almost comic change of pace: a military figure busy with an everyday agricultural task. In a wartime setting, livestock and food also belonged to the lives and resources of civilians.

Keeping that broader context in mind avoids turning the scene into an invented story of a welcoming local population.

Three different heights

The standing soldier, cow and seated man create a stepped composition. An angle that shows the bucket and the seated figure is more informative than a view where the animal hides the activity.

The cow needs space to remain a full subject, not merely a background accessory behind the drinking soldier.

Why this unusual group deserves its own entry

The WH series includes everyday activities alongside the military equipment. WH058 adds a distinctly rural subject and a memorable multi-part arrangement.

Keep the complete group identified in the collection record. A loose drinking figure or isolated cow would preserve only part of the release’s original idea.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WH058 product record lists a release date of April 2016 and a retirement date of September 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
