The Operation ToyBox catalog · WH044

The open door in WH044 is the centre of the scene. King & Country’s Citroën staff car carries the aftermath of an ambush, with a dead driver and General Friedrich Kussin slumped at the doorway.

A specific Arnhem association

The release identifies Kussin, the German commander in the Arnhem area, and his fatal encounter with advancing British paratroopers in September 1944.

A wartime photograph credited to IWM as BU1155 records the general’s body at the car. That provides a historical point of comparison, while the miniature remains a sculpted interpretation of the event.

The car has a history of its own

The product record identifies a Citroën Traction used as a German staff car. Its civilian-derived shape is part of the interest: rounded bodywork and an ordinary passenger compartment carry a military scene very different from a tank or armoured half-track.

The model’s service identity is German, even though the vehicle design is French.

Keep the aftermath readable

The driver and open doorway distinguish this release from an undamaged staff car. A view from the doorway side reveals the composition; a front-only view can conceal much of what the set depicts.

WH045 supplies a separately cataloged dead officer associated with the scene. It should not be silently counted as part of WH044.

Why this is more than another vehicle variant

WH044 links a particular person and encounter with a recognizable civilian car design. Its historical interest lies in that combination and in the consequences shown by the figures. A restrained display and an accurate label serve the subject better than treating the casualties as incidental decoration.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WH044 product record lists a release date of October 2015 and a retirement date of September 2017. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
