The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD229

The seated man in DD229 stretches one leg forward while his companion kneels beside him. Their Garand and BAR run across their bodies, producing a low, broad group that looks immediately different from two standing infantrymen.

The second pair changes the rhythm

The manufacturer offered this release alongside DD228. Instead of repeating two similar kneeling poses, it combines one kneeling man with a seated figure whose legs create a longer footprint.

The BAR also changes the equipment mix. Its substantial dark body is visibly different from the slimmer rifle carried by the other man.

What a real BAR comparison reveals

The Smithsonian’s M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle record provides a full-size artifact reference. Looking at the real weapon helps the collector recognize the larger receiver and magazine area compressed into the miniature.

The release announcement supplies the model’s Garand-and-BAR identification. It does not assign the pair to a named regiment or a particular tank crew.

The seated pose needs a little more room

The forward leg and long weapon project in different directions. On a vehicle, that means checking the available surface rather than assuming any flat-looking part of a tank will comfortably hold the figure.

On the ground, the same pose can suggest a pause at the roadside. The two men need no additional vehicle to make the arrangement understandable.

A four-man group from two releases

DD228 and DD229 together provide different levels, weapons and directions of attention. Keep those differences visible rather than lining every head up at the same angle.

DD229 earns its own place through the seated BAR man and his kneeling companion. The combination adds another moment to the American infantry story, with equipment carried and held during a pause rather than shown only in use.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD229 product record lists a release date of May 2014 and a retirement date of June 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
