The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD165

DD165 walks with a Sten across his body and his head turned to the side. The compact weapon gives the sergeant a different outline from the long-rifle figures in the same British infantry group.

From toy cars to wartime production

There is a particularly fitting historical aside for a toy-soldier catalog. The Royal Armouries’ account of Tri-ang explains how Lines Brothers, known for toys, produced Sten guns during the war.

The firm’s experience with sheet metal helped it manufacture the Mk III, and women worked in welding and final assembly. This is background to the Sten family, not a claim that the small weapon represented by DD165 came from that factory or is necessarily that mark.

The sergeant looks across the group

The archived description emphasizes his attention to both his men and the surroundings. In the saved image, the turned head and low-held weapon support that idea without an exaggerated pointing arm.

Helmet camouflage, webbing and the walking stride connect him with the British figures released nearby.

A useful place in a patrol

DD167 carries his rifle across his body, DD168 holds it low and DD169 has it slung. The sergeant adds another weapon and a different direction of attention to that visual sequence.

A staggered arrangement leaves the individual poses readable. A perfectly even line can make these varied walking figures seem more repetitive than they are.

Why this figure belongs

DD165 brings leadership and a recognizable British weapon into the group. Its historical interest also reaches back to the factories that supplied the army, including a company better remembered by collectors for the toys it made before and after the war.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD165 product record lists a release date of May 2012 and a retirement date of April 2022. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
