King & Country DD131 Standing Sailor: A Quiet Naval Figure Among the Landing Preparations

Naval work within the D-Day picture

The Naval History and Heritage Command’s D-Day photograph collection includes the ships, craft and crews behind the assault.

DD131 gives a collector a small human counterpart to that machinery. His presence can make a landing-craft or dockside display feel occupied between its more active gestures.

The uniform changes the colour of the group

The blue clothing contrasts with the khaki and green tones of the Army figures. The flat rectangular base also distinguishes the sailor from many ground-based infantry releases.

A clear front view preserves the helmet lettering, face and hand position used to identify this version.

Why an observer belongs in the catalog

Not every figure needs to point, fire or carry a large object. DD131 adds a still moment within the naval sequence and lets the more active figures around him carry the movement.

Keep his separate code with the reference image so that he is not assumed to be an unnamed permanent crew figure from whichever craft he happens to stand beside.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD131 product record lists a release date of July 2010 and a retirement date of April 2012. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
