The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL042
AL042 is built around a simple, legible action: a dismounted trooper takes aim with his rifle. In a range famous for moving horses, a standing firing figure supplies a firm vertical shape and a clear line of sight. It can make the edge of a position easy to understand.

Standing is a display choice as well as a pose
The catalog description identifies the trooper as dismounted. Used alongside kneeling men, he gives a firing group changes in height, but those heights should still relate to the ground. A figure standing fully exposed behind a very low wall tells a different story from one firing through an opening.
I would place him where the rifle clears the scenery and where his sightline is not blocked by another miniature. Those small decisions matter more than making every base touch. Some open ground between figures makes a scene easier to read and easier to photograph.
A photograph can offer a better starting point
For historical inspiration, the 12th Light Horse Regiment’s service record provides a route beyond the familiar mounted charge: the regiment also fought on foot. The relevant collecting question is how to show the dismounted role, rather than how many horses can fit on the shelf.
The figure is not identified as a member of that specific regiment. Its value is as a representative subject through which a wider part of Light Horse service can be discussed.
What AL042 adds beside a loading figure
A firing pose represents only one moment in the work of a rifleman. Put AL042 near AL043’s loading action and the pair introduces a small sequence. One man is ready to fire while another works his weapon. That variety gives a compact infantry display more life, and explains why apparently modest individual releases are worth recording alongside the spectacular mounted sets.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL042 product record lists November 2012 as the release date and October 2020 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
