The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL035
Movement in the AL range does not all point toward the objective. AL035 shows an Ottoman soldier bent forward and running, a figure whose urgency comes from getting out of danger. It supplies a different rhythm beside the taller, more expansive shapes of mounted troops.

The small action that explains the pose
King & Country’s description says the soldier is trying to avoid a leaping horse. That is a more specific idea than a generic advancing rifleman, and it gives collectors a useful clue for placement. The figure works best when the viewer can understand what he is reacting to.
I would place him just off the main path of a mounted subject, with an open route in the direction he is running. Put him directly against a wall or another figure and the implied action becomes difficult to read. A modest amount of space can make the whole encounter feel more convincing.
A ground-level view of the campaign
The famous mounted attack at Beersheba formed part of a much larger operation against the Gaza–Beersheba defensive line. The Australian War Memorial’s overview places the charge within that broader effort, rather than treating it as the whole battle.
AL035 is useful because it shifts attention from the distant outline of a formation to the immediate experience of someone on the ground. That is an interpretation of the sculpt’s action, not an identification of an individual historical soldier.
Why variety matters in an Ottoman group
Standing and kneeling firing figures establish a position; a moving figure introduces change. AL035 can make a defensive group look as though events are unfolding around it. Used sparingly, that change of pace is more effective than filling every gap with another soldier. The result is a collection with different viewpoints as well as different uniforms.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL035 product record lists July 2012 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
