The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL012
A hanging ammunition belt makes AL012 immediately different from the riflemen around him. The gunner sits behind a substantial mounted weapon, with a brass-coloured barrel jacket extending ahead and a green support beneath it. His red fez is another strong visual marker within the early Ottoman group.

Follow the belt
The curved belt leads the eye down from the receiver toward the base, linking the gun to its supply of ammunition. The box and seated figure fill the rear of the scene, while the long barrel and support open the front.
That arrangement gives this compact release the presence of a small weapon position. There is one operator in the reference image. Additional ammunition handlers or nearby riflemen would be separate additions to the display.
A different problem for the approaching troops
The Australian War Memorial’s 1917 retrospective includes Ottoman machine-gun and artillery fire in its account of the approach to Beersheba. The mounted attack was made against defended ground, and the weapons in that line are an essential part of understanding the encounter.
AL012 gives that historical point a visible form. Its low, planted silhouette contrasts with the moving horses, placing a fixed position opposite their speed. The model is best identified by its catalog title unless a more detailed weapon identification can be established from reliable release material.
A small position, with room around the barrel
A low flank of earth or sandbags can frame the gun without concealing the ammunition belt. Keep the front open enough to show the mounting and the operator’s relationship to the weapon.
The red headgear provides a useful colour accent beside the pale uniforms of AL008–AL011. Seen together, the figures offer different heights, equipment and tasks. For collectors comparing secondhand examples, the belt, barrel and support deserve particular attention: they are the details that make this release recognizable even when photographed without its box.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL012 product record lists a release date of May 2010 and a retirement date of September 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
