The campaign behind the date
The Guadalcanal campaign ran from August 1942 into February 1943. The US Naval History and Heritage Command’s photographic account places the Marines within a combined land, sea and air struggle. The 1942 label should therefore be read as part of an extended campaign, not a single landing-day moment.
Keep the tropical setting restrained
Low vegetation or a simple ground surface can establish the scene while leaving the equipment visible. Dense foliage placed directly in front of the body hides the details that make the figure useful as a reference. A side angle helps show the weapon, helmet profile and carried load together.
Check the release rather than the nationality
The catalog also includes later US Marine subjects. Compare the exact stance, uniform and date before treating them as interchangeable. In a listing, inspect the muzzle, hands, helmet paint and base inscription. A seller’s “WW2 American soldier” title is not precise enough to distinguish this Marine from army infantry or a later-war figure.
