Del Prado · Second World War · 1944
This Del Prado mountain officer wears a field cap and carries the quieter bearing of a man away from an immediate firing action. He complements the ski-equipped mountain-troops subject by showing the role without its most conspicuous winter accessory.

Mountain troops are not defined only by skis
Specialist troops also operated on foot in terrain where equipment, endurance and movement mattered. An officer without skis is therefore not an incomplete version of the ski-carrying NCO. The two models represent different subjects and should retain separate descriptions in a collection record.
A comparison that adds information
Set the officer beside the 1943 ski-equipped NCO and compare the clothing, carried load and rank presentation. The contrast can explain how a specialist formation contains different jobs. It is more informative than grouping the two as generic “German winter soldiers,” especially because this figure does not carry the same pale winter layer or long skis.
Photographs to keep and request
A clear cap view, the front of the uniform and the base inscription are valuable for identification. Ask for the sides of the equipment and any thin weapon or strap details as well. The dark clothing may conceal paint losses in shadow. Store the full subject and date with the photographs so a later owner does not have to reconstruct the identity from a vague sales title.
