King & Country · Napoleonic · NA009

NA009 combines a large Union-pattern colour with a bareheaded officer. The discarded headgear at his feet adds a small narrative detail beneath a flag that otherwise dominates the composition.

Read the figure below the cloth

The officer holds the staff upright and a sword low at his side. His grey trousers and exposed head distinguish him from the white-trousered infantry. The objects on the base deserve an unobstructed view: they give the scene a moment of disruption without requiring a full battle vignette. The flag is the visual landmark, but the man beneath it keeps the set from feeling purely ceremonial.

A useful centre for a small collection

Place ready or kneeling infantry on either side, keeping the staff vertical and the flag face open to the viewer. A slightly lower front rank lets the officer’s body remain visible. Avoid putting another tall banner directly behind him; it confuses the shapes and makes the painted detail harder to appreciate. The set can also stand alone as a study of battlefield symbolism, with a short explanation of why a flag attracted both loyalty and danger.

What makes a complete example

Inspect the staff, finial, flag attachment, sword and the small objects on the base. Request photographs of both faces of the colour, since one side can hide cracking or repairs along the folds. Compare the bare head and trouser colour with the catalog reference. A seller’s phrase “British flag bearer” is too broad to establish the release, especially when different regiments and manufacturers used similar flag designs.
