King & Country · First World War · FW049

The tracks run around the entire body of FW049, creating the unmistakable outline of a British Great War tank. The model carries C42 markings and a roof-mounted beam, giving collectors more to examine than the familiar rhomboid shape.

Read the side before calling it a generic tank

The saved image shows a side sponson, long track runs, riveted plates and red-white recognition markings. A timber beam sits across the roof rails. The retail description identifies the subject as a Mark IV and associates it with “Cavalier.” Keep the photographed markings in the collection record; they help distinguish this release from other British heavy-tank models.

The shape explains the engineering problem

The high forward track run helps explain the attempt to cross obstacles, while the side-mounted armament shows how far this design was from a later tank with a central rotating turret. The roof beam is another reminder that getting stuck was a practical problem. A display can teach those points with a low trench edge and open viewing angles rather than covering the vehicle in elaborate scenery.

Condition checks for a large model

Inspect the sponsons, gun barrels, roof rails and beam, and ask for photographs of both track runs. The broad side panels make repainted patches easier to compare under even light. Check the underside and corners for shipping damage. The older description also uses later regimental terminology loosely; for a wartime label, “British Tank Corps” is the more appropriate framework. FW049 earns its place through the story of mobility and infantry support, not through an unsupported claim about a particular battle witnessed by this marked vehicle.
