The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS348

The bandage around the head and camouflage jacket distinguish WS348 from a conventional black-uniform tank commander. The figure represents Max Wünsche, associated with the 12th SS Panzer Regiment in Normandy.

The jacket is the collecting detail

The manufacturer identifies its fabric as Italian camouflage material associated with the Folgore airborne troops. On the miniature, the large color patches differ visibly from the smaller mottled patterns on many German infantry figures.

The bandage, hand near the face and opposite hand at the hip make the pose equally distinctive. The figure is recognizable through those details without needing a vehicle beside him.

Normandy was not simply a story of armored skill

Arthur Gullachsen’s research on the Meyer/Wünsche attack at Bretteville-l’Orgueilleuse examines the failed German counterattack of 8–9 June 1944. It emphasizes the danger of applying assumptions from earlier Eastern Front fighting to a different opponent and setting.

The wider divisional context also includes crimes against prisoners. The Canadian Army’s Doctrine and Training Bulletin discusses Waffen-SS atrocities in Normandy, including the murder of Canadian prisoners at Ardenne Abbey. That institutional history should accompany a named commander’s portrait rather than an unqualified account of a successful career.

Keep the model’s evidence in proportion

A bandaged sculpt does not, by itself, date a particular wound or establish the circumstances of capture. The release is best identified through its intended subject and visible clothing.

WS348 contains the single full figure on its scenic base. The unusual jacket and head treatment give it a distinct place among the named personalities in the WS catalog.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS348 product record lists a release date of April 2018 and a retirement date of November 2024. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
