The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD301
One tanker peels potatoes while the other eats from a mess tin in DD301. Their black berets and bulky oversuits keep the armored-crew identity visible, but the activity is entirely at ground level, away from the vehicle’s controls.

The two men are at different stages of a meal
The seated figure works over the potatoes while his standing companion has already begun eating. That small imbalance gives the pair a more natural rhythm than two men performing the same action.
The containers near the seated man and the mess tin in the other’s hands supply the scene’s practical detail. A vehicle is not needed for the interaction to be understood.
The oversuit has an interesting second use
The National Army Museum’s 1944 photograph of newly issued pixie suits describes a protective oversuit introduced in 1943. Its features included a detachable hood, extraction straps and the ability to serve as a sleeping bag.
That makes the clothing more than a bulky visual effect. The garment belongs to the crew’s practical life inside and outside the tank.
A British counterpart to the American crew pauses
DD280 and DD281 show American tankers drinking and eating. DD301 introduces a different uniform and a particularly recognizable preparation task into the same broad collecting theme.
The figures remain anonymous in the product record. Their meal should not be assigned a named regiment or a precise campaign location solely because a particular tank is placed behind them.
Keep the hands and food visible
The potato peeler needs a clear front view, while the standing man’s mess tin should remain below an unobstructed face. DD302 can extend the scene with a stove and a tea drinker.
DD301 belongs in the collection because it shows crew life through work and appetite. The two activities, different heights and substantial oversuits give the group plenty to look at without adding another weapon.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD301 product record lists a release date of May 2017. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
