The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD300

The light-colored clothing and bare head make DD300 stand apart from the darker European-uniform figures around him. Joe Gunn carries a Thompson at his side, bringing the tank commander from Sahara into the DD range’s film-inspired collection.

A movie made while the war was still being fought

Sony’s record for the 1943 film identifies Humphrey Bogart as Gunn, whose retreating tank crew gathers a mixed group of Allied stragglers in the North African desert.

This makes the release an interesting contrast with figures inspired by much later retrospective films. Sahara interpreted the war for audiences while the conflict was still ongoing.

The production has another cinematic connection

The American Film Institute’s production history records the film’s acknowledgment of an incident from the Soviet film The Thirteen. That cross-film connection adds another layer to a miniature whose immediate appeal may simply be Bogart’s recognizable character.

Joe Gunn is a screen role. The set should not be turned into a portrait of a documented real tank commander with the same service story.

The figure is separate from the tank

King & Country presents DD300 as a standalone reminder of one of its older tank releases. The M3 Lee associated with the story is not included with this single figure.

The low-held weapon and open stance leave the clothing and face unobstructed. A side-quarter view helps show the Thompson without letting it merge into the light uniform.

A useful contrast within war-cinema collecting

DD262’s WarDaddy and DD261’s Oddball Sherman belong to different films and different eras of filmmaking. Gunn brings a wartime production into that comparison.

DD300 earns its place through that specific screen identity, with the desert appearance and standalone pose keeping the miniature distinct from the larger vehicle story around it.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD300 product record lists a release date of January 2017 and a retirement date of May 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
