The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD297

DD297 moves forward with his weapon held across the front and his attention turned into the action. King & Country’s Dick Winters figure has a particular commemorative starting point: the manufacturer describes deciding to make the portrait after visiting the Winters statue in Normandy.

The monument honors leadership beyond one man

The U.S. Army’s report of the June 2012 dedication places the memorial near Sainte-Marie-du-Mont on the route toward Utah Beach. The ceremony presented Winters as a representative of the young leaders who commanded men in combat.

That gives the miniature a connection with remembrance as well as wartime service. The statue, the later collectible and the historical officer are related subjects, but they are not the same object or moment.

The title uses his later familiar rank

The same Army account identifies Winters as a first lieutenant during the Normandy jump, taking command of Easy Company after its commander was lost. Major in the collectible’s title should not be read as his rank on D-Day itself.

That small chronology distinction matters because the title and the Normandy inspiration can otherwise be combined too casually.

The sculpt keeps him in motion

The bent arms, forward leg and turned helmet create an active silhouette. The airborne uniform and carried equipment give the body weight without turning the figure into a static dress portrait.

The manufacturer dedicates the release to the real Winters. The popularity of Band of Brothers helps explain the collecting interest, but this entry is a historical personality subject rather than an unnamed television-style paratrooper.

A named leader within the airborne collection

DD276 adds Colonel Sink at regimental level, while the anonymous preparation and action figures show other airborne experiences. Winters brings a company-leadership and memorial connection to that wider selection.

The figure’s movement makes the tribute visible without requiring a large scenic reconstruction around it.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD297 product record lists a release date of December 2016 and a retirement date of April 2023. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
