The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD284
The short brown jacket is the point of DD284. Eisenhower stands with his hands at his waist, wearing the compact garment above lighter trousers, so the contrast between the two parts of the uniform remains immediately visible.

A familiar name became a clothing name
The Smithsonian’s Eisenhower-jacket record connects the short, practical garment with its adoption as standard Army clothing in late 1944. The CIA Museum’s surviving OSS example also notes the influence of British battledress.
That gives the figure an equipment-history angle beyond a general’s portrait. A personal association helped give an everyday uniform item a name that collectors still recognize.
The color contrast is deliberate
King & Country describes the chocolate-brown officer’s jacket worn with the lighter trousers commonly called pinks. In the miniature, those trousers read as a pale beige-khaki against the darker upper garment.
The hands frame the waist, making the jacket’s shorter cut particularly easy to see. There is no coat or map case covering the feature that distinguishes this release.
Compare it with the other Ike
DD291 depicts Eisenhower in the longer, four-pocket officer’s jacket. The two figures offer a straightforward comparison of uniform silhouettes while retaining the same named subject.
That pairing can be more informative than placing the portraits far apart. The viewer can see how the shorter waist-length garment changes the proportions of the whole figure.
A portrait with a practical subject
DD284 belongs in the collection both as Eisenhower and as a miniature illustration of the jacket associated with him. It gives a familiar historical personality an accessible point of entry through clothing.
For identification, look at the hem, pocket arrangement and contrast with the trousers. Those details separate this version from other Eisenhower portraits more reliably than the face alone.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD284 product record lists a release date of May 2016 and a retirement date of June 2018. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
