The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL061
AL061 reaches forward with a small drinking vessel, his other hand resting near his knee. The gesture is simple and immediately understandable. Within a range full of rifles and bayonets, the object in his hand changes the subject from fighting to care.
The intended companion matters
The release description identifies him as a medic offering water to the wounded men carried by AL058’s camel ambulance. His kneeling height makes sense beside the crouched animal and its side litters.
Displayed alone, he remains a readable caregiver. Beside AL058, the direction of his arm and gaze becomes more specific, connecting him to a patient rather than to an unseen point beyond the base.
Care included the ordinary necessities
The State Library of Queensland’s discussion of David Gifford Croll’s ambulance records describes the coordination of medical transport alongside food, water and shelter. Those everyday needs were part of the work of treating and retrieving wounded men.
The miniature’s small vessel makes that wider labor visible. The subject is not a dramatic procedure; it is a moment of attention to a person whose journey may already have been painful and exhausting.
A small figure with a clear relationship
Place the medic so that his offered drink reaches toward one of the litters, leaving a gap that allows the hand to remain visible. The pose loses much of its meaning if the arm is hidden behind another figure or the camel’s load.
The slouch hat, equipment straps and dark lower legs connect him visually with the Australian figures elsewhere in the AL catalog. His task gives him a different role within that shared uniform. When checking an example, the extended hand and vessel deserve close attention, since they carry the whole action. AL061 is a modest release that can become the emotional focus of a much larger medical scene.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL061 product record lists a release date of November 2013 and a retirement date of July 2021. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
