The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL022

AL022 is caught falling backward, his face lifted and his rifle still upright in his hands. The fixed bayonet draws a long pale line above him. This is an active casualty pose, with the body losing the balanced stance seen in the early firing and ready figures.

A change in posture carries the subject

The catalog describes an Ottoman soldier being hit while moving toward the horsemen. In the miniature, the arched torso and backward head do most of the storytelling. The familiar pale uniform and rifle connect him with the rest of the Ottoman infantry group.

The figure does not need extra effects to make its meaning clear. The posture itself marks a sudden interruption. Seen beside AL011’s steady stance, the difference is immediate and rather stark.

Keep the people in the historical picture

The National Army Museum’s campaign overview includes a photograph of soldiers burying Ottoman dead near Beersheba. Such records broaden the history beyond the successful maneuver and the celebrated mounted charge.

A casualty miniature can serve a similar purpose in a collection if it is displayed thoughtfully. It acknowledges that the opposing soldiers were people who were wounded and killed, rather than simply an obstacle in another unit’s story.

A restrained place in the scene

I would keep AL022 within the infantry position, where his uniform and equipment connect him to the men around him. There is no need to turn the pose into the center of an exaggerated scene of destruction.

Its vertical rifle also makes the figure easy to identify in a mixed lot. Check the bayonet, hands and backward lean against the reference, since these are the elements that define the sculpt. AL022 adds a serious note to the early AL range: the same equipment and uniform seen on the firing figures are now carried by a man whose action has been abruptly stopped.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL022 product record lists a release date of July 2011 and a retirement date of May 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
