The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL015
Large wooden-spoked wheels give AL015 its first impression. Behind them sit the shield and barrel of a field gun, with two Ottoman crewmen working around the piece. It introduces a heavier weapon into an early AL collection otherwise dominated by individual riflemen and horses.

Two men and the shape of a gun position
The reference image shows one crewman kneeling and another leaning into his task behind the wheel. Their different headgear and body positions keep the scene from becoming symmetrical. The sandy finish ties the weapon to the ground and pale uniforms around it.
Look through the wheel spokes as well as over the shield. Those openings make a surprisingly large difference to the appearance of the miniature. From a slightly elevated side angle, the crew, carriage and barrel remain readable as separate parts of one working position.
A caliber that appears in the campaign record
The New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade’s September 1918 war diary records enemy 77mm fire against a watering area on 6 September. It is a small entry with a revealing setting: artillery threatened routine necessities as well as dramatic assaults.
That record provides campaign context for the caliber in AL015’s title. It does not identify this miniature as the exact gun responsible for that particular shelling, or establish a specific battery for the crew.
Water, horses and artillery
A collection that places this gun opposite mounted troops can tell more than a charge-and-defense story. The diary’s watering-area entry draws attention to the places where animals and men had to gather, and to how vulnerable those daily tasks could be.
I would give the gun a little depth behind the shield so its crew can be seen doing their work. A low earth bank at the side is enough to frame the position. For a loose set, compare the crew count, wheels and projecting barrel with the reference before concentrating on the box label. The release’s interest lies in the relationship between the men and the equipment.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL015 product record lists a release date of December 2010 and a retirement date of September 2013. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
