The Operation ToyBox catalog · WS088

WS088 creates a checkpoint through two men and a parked motorcycle combination. Both Feldgendarmes are on foot, leaving the camouflage motorcycle and sidecar between them as a small island of equipment.

The title describes an activity

The original announcement describes preparations for checking civilians’ identities. The reference photograph shows the two military policemen with their motorcycle; it does not show a civilian, gate or striped road barrier as part of the release.

That makes the name Road Block a useful reminder to read beyond a box title. It describes the intended scene, while the actual pieces establish what a collector should expect to receive.

One man reads while the other waits

A pale sheet in one figure’s hands breaks up the grey-green clothing. His companion stands across the motorcycle, with his hands near his belt. Neither adopts a dramatic running or firing pose.

The tension comes from the pause. For a civilian approaching an occupation checkpoint, an identity check could be an intimidating encounter; the miniature’s quiet arrangement should not make the setting seem merely picturesque.

A useful comparison with WS087

WS087 announces its action with a raised red paddle and a rider still on his machine. WS088 lowers the scene to a conversation between two standing figures and changes the motorcycle finish to camouflage.

Placed together, the releases can suggest different stages of roadside control. Kept separately, each remains a complete small composition with its own figures and vehicle.

Building the surrounding street

A pavement edge or building corner can give the group a location without overwhelming it. Keep the space in front of the document-holding figure clear; that is where the implied encounter takes place.

The broader occupation and military history belongs alongside this collecting detail in the WS series retrospective. The archive does not identify a particular town or documented incident for WS088.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS088 product record lists a release date of March 2007 and a retirement date of July 2008. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
