The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD187

DD187 crouches with one hand holding his rifle upright and the other arm pointing outward. The direction of the arm, rather than the muzzle, becomes the main line through the figure.

Kneeling in the title, crouching in the description

The archived page uses both words for this release. The saved image is the clearest guide: the man sits low with his weight gathered beneath him, rifle held vertically beside the face.

Keeping both common descriptions associated with the code helps a collector recognize the same sculpt in differently worded listings.

The pointing hand creates another relationship

The product description suggests an object of attention ahead, but does not identify it. The figure can therefore direct the viewer’s eye toward another part of a historical display without requiring an invented target or spoken line.

The rifle’s upright position keeps it from competing with the extended arm. The helmet and turned head reinforce that outward attention.

A low figure that can lead the eye

Although shorter than the standing men around him, DD187 can become a focal point because the gesture is so clear. Leave open space beyond the hand rather than placing another figure directly against it.

Its height also makes it a useful visual companion for DD186’s kneeling rifleman or DD183’s two-man gun team.

Why the catalog needs the gesture figures

The D-Day collection gains variety from men observing, calling and pointing as well as firing. DD187 supplies one of those connecting activities.

The original low posture, vertical rifle and extended arm distinguish this release from other pointing GIs. Preserving those details in the entry makes the figure searchable as its own subject, even when it becomes part of a much larger infantry scene.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD187 product record lists a release date of August 2012 and a retirement date of August 2016. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
