The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD171

DD171 carries a radio on his back and a handset near his face. The long aerial extends well above the helmet, making this one of the easiest British support figures to recognize by outline.

Communication accompanied the advance

The release description links the radio operator with the officer he supports. The British Army’s signals history places divisional signallers within the Sword Beach landing and subsequent fighting.

That background gives the figure a direct connection with the invasion’s communications work. The sculpt remains an anonymous representative, rather than a portrait of a particular signaller mentioned in the historical record.

The carried load changes the posture

The saved image shows the radio behind the shoulders, with a rifle also carried upright. The handset brings one hand close to the face while the other helps manage the equipment.

Those overlapping objects create a busy silhouette, but each serves a different visual purpose. The aerial, radio pack and handset together distinguish the subject from an ordinary infantryman with a backpack.

Give the aerial clear space

Its height is part of the figure’s identity and part of the space it needs. Measure the full projection when placing the model under a shelf or beside overhanging scenery.

A simple background also makes the slender aerial easier to see in a collection photograph.

A natural companion with its own code

DD170’s map-reading officer supplies a useful nearby subject. Their different activities make a compact command scene without requiring a vehicle.

DD171 nevertheless belongs as a separately released figure. Its communications role deserves to remain searchable, and the original equipment arrangement should stay attached to the code even when it is displayed among a larger group of British infantry.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD171 product record lists a release date of June 2012 and a retirement date of October 2020. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
