King & Country WS034 Field Marshal Erwin Rommel: The Desert Commander in an Early WS Portrait

The North African association

The archived title links the figure with the Afrika Korps. The National Army Museum’s wartime timeline places Rommel’s arrival in North Africa within Germany’s intervention to support Italian forces.

The figure’s clothing and title establish that collecting context. They do not identify a particular inspection, photograph or day in the campaign.

The details that identify this version

The binoculars form a dark focal point against the jacket. The upright stance and narrow base differ from later vehicle-mounted or conversational Rommel releases.

Those features are useful when the figure appears loose in a mixed collection. A familiar face or name alone does not identify which King & Country version is being offered.

Why retain the early release?

WS034 records how the range represented a major commander in its earlier years. Comparing it with later Rommel sculpts creates a collecting retrospective while keeping this particular code, pose and uniform treatment distinct.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived WS034 product record lists a release date of November 2001 and a retirement date of March 2009. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
