The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD107

DD107 is a waterline Landing Craft Assault marked LCA 718. The open troop space, lowered bow ramp and two-tone finish make the craft a natural focal point for an amphibious display.

A British craft in the American landing story

Royal Navy LCAs carried American Rangers toward Pointe du Hoc. The US Naval History and Heritage Command’s D-Day account describes those craft and the difficulty of approaching the correct headland.

That connection widens the picture of the assault: the nationality of the troops and the sailors delivering them did not always match.

What this release supplies

The archived record specifies a coxswain and a Bren gunner with the craft. Infantry passengers shown in a larger display should not automatically be counted as original contents.

The reference photograph records the 718 marking, camouflage, ramp and open interior. Those details distinguish the release from other landing craft in the DD series.

A waterline model changes the display

The craft is designed to sit at the represented water surface. A flat sea or shoreline treatment therefore suits its form better than presenting it as a full hull lifted out of the water.

The original description gives an approximate length of 42 centimetres, so allow room for the boat as well as the extended ramp.

Why it earns a place in the collection

DD107 makes the crossing from ship to shore visible. It also connects naval crews with the infantry figures that otherwise dominate landing scenes, giving the catalog another way to explain the cooperation behind D-Day.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD107 product record lists a release date of June 2009 and a retirement date of May 2011. These are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
