The Operation ToyBox catalog · DD056

DD056 takes the airborne subject literally into the air. Three 101st Airborne figures hang beneath deployed parachutes, creating a release whose full height is as important as the size of the soldiers.

The materials are part of the record

The product description distinguishes metal jumpers, polyresin parachutes and cotton lines. It also describes a thin suspension line above each canopy.

Those details matter because this is a complete suspended assembly, not simply three figures with scenic bases. The reference image shows how the canopies, lines and soldiers relate to one another.

Before the ground fighting

The U.S. Army’s D-Day history places the 101st Airborne landings behind Utah Beach. DD056 represents the descent phase that precedes the ground-action subjects elsewhere in the range.

It gives the collection a different moment in the airborne story, without identifying a particular aircraft, drop-zone photograph or named jumper.

Plan the vertical space first

The canopies and suspension lines need considerably more height than a normal figure group. A display should keep the assemblies clear of other objects and follow the model’s original mounting guidance.

A viewpoint that allows the full line from canopy to jumper to remain visible is more informative than concentrating only on the tiny figures below.

Completeness means more than three men

When comparing a secondhand example, ask for photographs of all three canopies, the lines and the suspended figures. A close-up of the soldiers alone cannot establish the condition of the whole release.

DD056 belongs in the catalog because it changes both the subject’s moment and the way the miniatures occupy space. It is one of the clearest reminders that an airborne collection can extend above the ground-level scene.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived DD056 product record lists July 2005 as the release date and August 2008 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
