DD047 spreads its four Rangers close to the ground. Two prone figures, a kneeling rifleman and an advancing man create a low supporting group whose shape differs sharply from the upright command figures of Set B.
The BAR gives the group its centre
The original description identifies a prone rifleman beside a Browning Automatic Rifle gunner, with a kneeling rifleman and another advancing Ranger completing the set.
Those different heights make the group readable from an elevated angle. A low viewpoint can hide the prone men, so the best shelf position is not necessarily the highest one.
Omaha is the stated setting
The manufacturer places these 2nd Ranger subjects on Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944. The U.S. Army’s Normandy overview supplies the broader invasion context.
The set title is a historical setting for representative figures. It does not identify each man or turn their exact arrangement into a reconstruction of a particular wartime photograph.
Use the heights to guide the display
A shallow beach scene can leave the two prone figures visible while the kneeling and advancing men rise behind them. Keep large obstacles from hiding the BAR and the hands around it.
DD048 adds a separate command group if a collector wants to extend the scene. Each release still has its own four-figure identity.
Why Set A deserves to stay together
The combination of low poses is what makes DD047 useful. Keeping the rifleman, BAR gunner and two higher figures correctly identified preserves the original supporting group when the pieces are moved between displays or offered in a mixed lot.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived DD047 product record lists June 2004 as the release date and November 2007 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
