The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL070

AL070 gives an Ottoman infantry group a low firing subject. A prone rifleman changes the height and spacing of a display, making it possible to suggest a position rather than a row of figures all standing at the same level.

Think about the ground beneath the figure

The catalog title identifies the posture and national subject. Those basic details are useful because the AL range contains several Ottoman riflemen with similar abbreviated names but different actions.

I would choose ground that lets the body and rifle remain visible from the main viewing angle. A shallow rise can work well; a deep hollow may hide the figure completely. The aim is to show a soldier using the terrain, rather than a miniature accidentally lost behind scenery.

A different viewpoint on the campaign

The mounted subjects encourage the viewer to look along the movement of the horses. A prone defender invites a much lower perspective. Placed at the front of an Ottoman group, AL070 can make the scale of the approaching mounted figures feel more apparent.

The Australian War Memorial’s account of Beersheba describes the defended town and the attack upon it. That is useful historical context, while the exact position of this unnamed rifleman remains a collector’s interpretation.

Building variety with a few figures

A prone rifleman, a kneeling soldier and a standing observer can produce a more interesting small group than several identical firing poses. Their different heights guide the eye through the arrangement.

AL070 therefore earns its place as a practical infantry building block. It is not a complicated release, but the posture changes what a collector can show. Keep the full code with the figure’s record so it remains distinguishable from the range’s other Ottoman riflemen when comparing photographs or searching for another example.

Release record and collecting notes

Sager’s archived AL070 product record lists July 2014 as the release date and July 2021 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
