The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL053
AL053 divides the rider’s attention between horse and weapon. One hand controls the reins while the other extends the Lee-Enfield, giving the mounted figure a strong sense of reaching toward the action ahead.

The two hands explain the sculpt
The product description places the trooper near the Ottoman trenches during a charge. The useful visual detail is the separation of the tasks: managing the mount and presenting the rifle. That makes the pose distinct from the bayonet-in-hand riders and from figures carrying the rifle across their backs.
I would give the extended weapon a clear background and enough room from the next horse. Its direction is part of the figure’s balance. If it disappears behind another rider, the feature that differentiates the set is lost.
Several ways of carrying a weapon
Accounts of Beersheba describe riders carrying their weapons in different ways during the mounted attack. The Australian War Memorial’s retrospective discusses rifles and bayonets in that setting. This is helpful context for the variety of arm positions across the AL range.
The miniature remains a representative action figure. It does not need a named rider attached to it to show the practical difficulty of handling a long weapon from a moving horse.
A useful change within a mounted group
AL053 can sit between figures with raised weapons and figures whose rifles lie closer to the body, giving the group changes in line and height. I would stagger the bases slightly so those differences remain visible.
Its collecting role is variety within a shared subject. The set adds another way of showing the mounted trooper at work, and invites the viewer to notice the relationship between the man’s equipment and the animal carrying him.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL053 product record lists April 2013 as the release date and September 2020 as the retirement date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
