The Operation ToyBox catalog · AL078
The little act in AL078 is easy to understand: a kneeling trooper pours water from his canteen into an upturned slouch hat for his horse. The familiar headgear becomes an improvised bowl, and the scene shifts the focus from riding the animal to looking after it.
Watch the hands and the hat
The product description makes the sequence clear. Water moves from canteen to hat so the horse can drink. That interaction is the reason to keep the central objects visible when arranging the set. A low viewing angle can hide the hat; too high an angle can flatten the relationship between man and animal.
I would try a three-quarter view before adding scenery. The miniature already contains a complete idea, so a plain piece of ground may serve it better than a crowded camp.
Water shaped the campaign
Water supply was a constant practical concern for mounted forces. At Beersheba, securing the town’s wells was one of the central objectives of the attack. The Australian War Memorial’s overview explains that importance in the wider operation.
AL078 translates that large logistical problem into one small act of care. It does not show a formal watering arrangement, and it should not be read as a measure of how much water a horse needed. Its strength is the immediate relationship between the two figures.
The collection between battles
This release is a natural counterpoint to the charging subjects and to the more sombre horse scenes. It reminds the viewer that the mounts had needs that continued whether or not a battle was underway.
Alongside a saddle-carrying trooper or a resting group, AL078 helps build a believable halt. As a standalone piece, the transformation of the slouch hat is enough to make a visitor look twice and ask what is happening.
Release record and collecting notes
Sager’s archived AL078 product record lists April 2017 as the release date. Those are catalog dates, rather than a statement about today’s secondhand availability. Compare the seller’s actual photographs with the reference image here, including any projecting equipment and the base; a familiar box title alone is not a condition report.
