Collector‑oriented review and market notes
The King & Country EA011 “Field Marshal Alexander” is a finely wrought, hand‑painted 1:30 scale figure issued in 2006, depicting Britain’s Field Marshal Harold Alexander alongside his military police bodyguard. Cast in tin‑lead alloy and part of the British Eighth Army series, this miniature brings focus to one of World War II’s key coalition commanders. With a finely profiled oval base and period‑accurate detailing, the figure adds both historical resonance and collector appeal.
Historical Background
Field Marshal Harold Rupert Leofric George Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis (born December 10, 1891 in London; died June 16, 1969), served with distinction in both world wars, rising to become one of Britain’s most capable senior commanders in World War II. He commanded I Corps during the Dunkirk evacuation in spring 1940, being the last man to leave the beaches, aiding in the evacuation of some 300,000 troops. In August 1942 Alexander replaced General Auchinleck as Commander‑in‑Chief Middle East, overseeing the British Eighth Army under Bernard Montgomery and playing a central role in the turning point at El Alamein, and in driving Axis forces west across North Africa to their surrender in Tunis in May 1943.
Following that, he commanded the 15th Army Group, directing both Montgomery’s Eighth Army and General Patton’s Seventh Army in the Allied invasion of Sicily and the Italian campaign, entering Rome on June 4, 1944. Promoted to Field Marshal effective from the fall of Rome, he later became Supreme Allied Commander Mediterranean and accepted the German surrender in Italy on April 29, 1945. His leadership in coalition operations and varied theaters—from Dunkirk and Burma to North Africa and Italy—made him a pivotal figure in Allied strategy and the eventual defeat of Axis forces in Europe.
Collector Notes
The King & Country EA011 figure was released in May 2006 and retired by August 2009. It is cast in a tin‑lead alloy, factory‑painted, and stands approx. 1:30 scale (~60 mm). The sculpt features Field Marshal Alexander flanked by an MP bodyguard on an oval profiled base, indicative of the British Eighth Army line design. Identifying marks include the “EA011” serial number and inclusion in the Eighth Army series. Variants are rare; paint and condition (notably on insignia, baton detail and MP weapon) affect value. Excellent‑mint boxed examples fetch approximately USD 60–80, while loose or worn versions tend to range USD 35–50.
Collectors should inspect for paint chips, especially on the bodyguard and facings, and ensure the integrity of the base edges. Original packaging increases desirability and price significantly.
